J Todd Harris

Was raised in and around New York. He graduated from Stanford in 1981. He managed a regional repertory theatre company called TheatreWorks in Palo Alto from 1981-1984, before attending Stanford Business School, where he earned his MBA in 1986. He got his feet wet as production executive for the original Showtime movie Heads, starring Jon Cryer, Jennifer Tilly, and Ed Asner. After producing his first film, Denise Calls Up, in 1994, he formed Davis Entertainment Classics, of which his is president. After producing six more films (including Sundance entries Lewis & Clark & George and Tim Hutton's directing debut Digging To China), he expanded his work to include partnering with actor Tim Daly in Daly-Harris Productions, which produced the 1998 Showtime Original Movie Execution of Justice, starring Tim Daly. He also produced Rites of Passage and Dudley Do-Right in 1998 for Universal Pictures. He lives with his wife lyricist Amy Powers and son Jasper Lee, born October 1998.

Dr. Armando Aranda

Né à Mexico, il s'est impliqué activement dans le mouvement des réalisateurs de films indépendants qui employaient le format des films d'amateur super 8m/m comme véhicule pour défier l'ennui de l'industrie officielle du cinéma mexicain, pendant les années 1970. En 1975 il est entré à l'Ecole nationale du film de Mexico nouvellement établie (Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica) où il a rencontré le grand maître surréaliste, Luis Bunuel, et plusieurs réalisateurs de films tels que Roman Polanski, John Huston, Frank Capra et Sergio Leone.

Ses courts métrages, tournés à l'école du film, ont révélé une esthétique crue, minimaliste, nourrie de l'influence du cinéma de Bunuel dont il était proche, et du théatre et des écrits de Samuel Beckett. N'ayant jamais eu l'intention de devenir un réalisateur de films commerciaux, il a été scénariste en dilettante pour le Mexican Plublic Broadcasting Service, tandis qu'il poursuivait à la fois sa formation de médecin, et l'écriture de poésies. Au début des années 1980, il est venu étudier à l'Université de Cambridge, en Angleterre, afin d'obtenir un doctorat en sciences. Par ailleurs, il est devenu un membre actif du London Screen-Writers Workshop et a écrit, en tant que nègre, des séquences spécifiques pour des téléfilms et des séries. À travers ses amis de Cambridge et de Londres, il s'est impliqué dans le journalisme culturel, écrivant des articles de fond et des critiques sur les sciences, la musique, la poésie et l'art.

Son premier recueil de poèmes a été publié en 1985 et depuis, ses poésies figurent dans des revues littéraires, des anthologies et des publications artistiques en Angleterre, en France, en Allemagne, en Suisse, aux États Unis et au Mexique. Tout en poursuivant sa carrière scientifique en France, il a également adhéré au Collège international de Philosophie où il a rencontré quelques figures fondatrices de la pensée post-moderne, comme Jacques Derrida. En 1989, sa novella-monologue "At the edge of the Ocean" a été lue à Mexico par Anthony Quinn. À la fin de l'automne 1989, sa plaquette de poèmes "Seven and one for Sam" a été envoyée à Samuel Beckett déjà souffrant, par l'éditeur de Beckett, Jérôme Lindon, directeur des Éditions de Minuit. Juste quelques semaines avant sa mort, Samuel Beckett a écrit à Armando Aranda, en reconnaissance de leur amitié esthétique et philosophique. Depuis, non seulement Armando Aranda s'est impliqué professionnellement dans des rencontres scientifiques et philosophiques, mais il est aussi conseiller auprès de maisons d'éditions importantes, de maisons de la culture, ainsi qu'auprès de fondations artistiques.

Lawrence Gray

Il a été Président Directeur Général et fondateur de The Screenwriters'Workshop (la plus grande organisation de scénaristes en Europe), il a écrit plusieurs séries télévisées pour le Royaume-Uni, et a gagné le PAWS Award pour Drama, vendu douze épisodes de Science-Fiction pour une série télévisée à Limehouse Studios, et six épisodes de Comedy Drama Series pour la BBC.

Il a voyagé en Asie pendant les dix dernières années, et il écrit actuellement, de temps à autres, des rubriques humoristiques pour The iMail, l'un des journaux de premier plan à Hong Kong, Il a pulbié des nouvelles dans le Dimsum Magazine, et a fondé et dirige le Hong Kong Writers Circle.

Il a enseigné l'écriture de scénarios à l'Université de Londres, et dans des collèges différents aux alentours de Londres. Il a donné des cours d'écriture de scénarios au Hong Kong Fringe Club, et dirige régulièrement des ateliers d'écriture à Hong Kong.

GRAY FOX FILMS has slated its initial project “Sunset Plaza” a dark comedy spoofing L.A. and the entertainment industry. It is expected to be shot in Los Angeles in September, 2005.

Other projects in development: ”The Apprentice” and “Slipknot” written by filmmakers Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman; “Family Maintenance” by J.D. Stark; “Luke’s Redemption” by Francisco Bello; “Earth” by Miro; “When Stars Collide”, a romantic comedy by Joseph Sigalas.

Among Mr. Gray’s accomplishments as a literary agent, he oversaw negotiations with Universal executives Josh Donen and Jeff Korchek for the screen rights to the novel, The Return of Philo T. McGiffin, by best-selling novelist David Poyer.  Universal Studios paid $200,000 against $500,000  acquiring the project for Badham/Cohen.

Julia Verdin

British Producer JULIA VERDIN has established herself as one of Hollywood’s leading independent Producers. Julia produced the critically acclaimed 2004 Newmarket release STANDER, a British/Canadian/South African co-production starring Tom Jane, Deborah Unger, Dexter Fletcher and David O’Hara directed by Bronwen Hughes (‘Forces of Nature’). Julia is a Co-Executive Producer on MERCHANT OF VENICE, directed by Michael Radford, starring Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons and Joseph Fiennes  witch was released to great critical acclaim by Sony Classics December 2004, and Co-Producer on RIDING THE BULLET based on a Steven King story directed By Mick Garris starring David Arquette, Jonathan Jackson, Erica Christensen and Barbara Hershey, released theatrically autumn 2004

SUMMERHILL to be directed by top British director Gilles McKinnon based on the true story of the British school, Summerhill that the Government tried to close down but were circumvented by the pupils who took them to court and won.   FLESH AND SOULS, a horror thriller to be directed by Morgan J Freeman.  Julia is also the director of British company Seven Arts Films and is actively developing several projects for the company including NEUROMANCER based on the William Gibson bestseller to be directed by Joseph Kahn, WAVELENGTH to be directed by Dennis Dugan a fish out of water comedy to be shot in Ireland.  WHITE LILY to be directed by Greg Widen to shoot in Russia, DOG SOLDIERS 2, a sequel to the successful DOG SOLDIERS movie. to be directed by Rob Green set to shoot in Budapest March 2006. LOST LAGOON, an action adventure film to be directed by British director Tony Hickox.

Julia started her producing career as head of production for the U.K. Company WASA Films. During her four years at WASA, Julia was involved in setting up THE FOURTH PROTOCOL, based on Frederick Forsythe best seller, starring Michael Caine, Pierce Brosnan and Joanna Cassidy. Julia then went on to produce SPYTRAP, a comedy directed by Arthur Sherman and released in the U.S. by Hemdale. Following this, she produced THE OPEN WINDOW, directed by Rupert Wainwright for Chanticleer, which premiered on Showtime. 

Before leaving WASA, Julia also developed two projects, A WITCH IN NEW YORK and JUNK JOHNSON, which were picked up by Orion and Pathe/MGM. In addition, Julia produced a short film for Philips Interactive Media of America and produced and hosted the international entertainment TV show HOLLYWOOD UPDATE. She has also produced segments and acted as one of the lead presenters for the British entertainment series INVITATIONS. Prior to her producing career Julia started in the film business as an actress and appeared in several British films and popular British TV series.

Mike Tarzian

Mike’s long list of credits ranges from directing feature films to producing television movies to creating commercials. Recently, he directed his first feature film, Screech of the Decapitated, which is will be released in January 2005 and served as the line producer for the independent Officer Down. He is now working on writing and producing a new program for the How To Channel/Do-It-Yourself Network called Furniture Lab.

As a veteran Line Producer, Mr. Tarzian has worked on films such as Groom Lake (directed and produced by William Shatner), Time of Fear (directed by Alan Swyer), Shoot or Be Shot (produced by Ralph Winter and directed by Randy Argue), Tap Water (directed by Oliver Darrow), The Santa Trap (produced by Steve Austin, Jonathan Bogner, and Steve Janokowski) and The Perfect Wife (produced by Pierre David and Noel Zanistch). Michael has worked on documentaries such as The Harbor View House (written and produced by Markus Whittman) as well as on short films like the award winning Opie Gone Mad (written and directed by Andy Lee Johnson and produced by Ralph Winter) and Gimme the Finger (written and directed by Jill Garson).
